Police said the incident began when they identified a suspect wanted for a property crime. According to authorities, the situation escalated when the suspect used pepper spray on officers and then lunged at them with a knife before running off. Officers say they tried to use a taser and less lethal munitions, but they didn’t work. The incident commander determined that there was no risk to the public, and that the suspect’s aggression was directed solely toward the officers on the scene.
