Besides unusual photospots, there are different places to rest and a boule-court as well. The Marco Polo terraces are a central meeting point in the middle of HafenCity. In addition to seating and lawns, it offers an impressive view of the backdrop surrounding the Grasbrook harbour. From here you can not only relax and enjoy things, but also watch the hustle and bustle in the harbour and HafenCity. The Marco Polo terraces were named in honour of the navigator and discoverer who travelled to the Orient and China in the 13th and 14th centuries. Culture and shopping in the HafenCity Many nearby cafés and restaurants make your stay pass very quickly, but still giving you all the time in the world to relax. From the Marco Polo terraces, it is only a few minute’s walk to the Elbphilharmonie or the Überseeboulevard. So no matter whether you are looking for culture, cuisine, or shopping - there is something for everyone here. ▶ Grasbrookpark (translated from Wikipedia) The Grasbrookpark is a small park at Grasbrook Harbor in Hafencity District in Hamburg, Germany. It is situated between the Marco-Polo-Terraces and the Überseequartier. Originally, when the metro line U4 was built underneath the district, in this area there was just a small playground, which opened in 2008. As soon as the construction of the metro line was finished, the area of Grasbrookpark was extended and today fills an area of over 7,100m². Very central for this park - and the reason it is so well known and liked - is a large playground, which was based off the old playground. Grasbrookpark in todays form opened in 2013. ▶ U Überseequartier (from Wikipedia) Überseequartier is a station on the Hamburg U-Bahn line U4. The station was opened in November 2012 and is located in the Hamburg quarter of HafenCity, Germany. HafenCity is part of the borough of Hamburg-Mitte. The station code is "UR". The stop was designed by the Netzwerkarchitekten architecture studio from Darmstadt. The walls are clad in blue ceramic-coated glass tiles that get darker the further down they go, recalling the undersea world. Silver-colored plates on the ceiling give the impression of a water surface. This underwater theme ties in nicely with the fact that the neighborhood is next to the harbor, and with the name of the stop, which translates as "Overseas Quarter", where the overseas part would provide the seafaring theme, and a playful interpretation of "over-seas" could see the neighborhood as over the sea and the metro station as below it and hence underwater. The underwater impression is heightened by a sound installation where speakers broadcast underwater sounds such as waves and other marine noises, acoustically amplifying the visual impression. ▶ HafenCity University (from Wikipedia) The HafenCity University Hamburg (German: HafenCity Universität Hamburg, abbreviated HCU) — also known as the University Of The Built Environment And Metropolitan Development — is a public university in Hamburg, Germany which is focused on architecture, civil engineering and urban planning courses. The university's name refers to its location in Hamburg's HafenCity, the site of an urban regeneration project where the old port warehouses of Hamburg are being replaced with offices, hotels, shops, official buildings, and residential areas. ▶ Baakenpark (translated from Wikipedia) The Baakenpark is a multifunctional Park in the east of Hafencity district in Hamburg, Germany. Since its opening in 2018, an area of more than 16,000m² are home of several playgrounds, sports stations and the Heavens Hill, a public viewpoint. The area around Baakenpark is not yet finished and many buildings are still under construction (as of 2021).
