Get onboard with one of the fastest-growing water sports: wake surfing. A cross between wakeboarding and traditional surfing, this rising sport involves riding a boat's wake without holding onto a rope or being strapped to the board. #alssportinggoods #wakesurfing @HyperliteWakeboards @ronixwakeboardco @liquidforceofficial In this video, we’ll walk you through everything you need to know to find the perfect surfer. Surfer Types Your options will include classic surfers, skim boards, or hybrids. Which board you want depends on what kind of riding experience you are aiming for. Wave Size The size of wake your boat creates will affect which type of surfer you’ll want. For small waves, you’ll need a board with more buoyancy. Bigger waves will be more conducive to carving with a smaller board. Rider Size There is no one-size-fits-all when it comes to wake surfing. The heavier the rider, the more buoyancy and surface area you’ll need from your surfer. If your surfer is too buoyant for your weight class, you’re going to have a hard time staying up. Expertise Level Classic and hybrid surfers come in a variety suited for beginners to advanced. Skim boards are more tailored to intermediate and advanced riders. Less buoyancy is better for beginners, making your surfer slower and less responsive. Whereas the opposite is true for more advanced surfers. Fin Configuration Most surfers come with a three or four fin setup, but you have the option of changing to a two or single fin configuration. Find the right board for you to hit the waves.
