Phacoemulsification surgery using iris retractors
Cataract surgery in small pupil after vitreoretinal surgery To present a challenging case of cataract surgery after vitreoretinal surgery because of persistent hematovitreus in diabetic patient (We performed surgery at Eye department General Hospital Murska Sobota, Slovenia in October 2016 After initial two incisions 5 additional incisions are made. Retractors are inserted and iris is fixated in pentagonal way. Cataract is removed using standard phacoemulsification procedure. After intracapsular lens implantation retractors are removed. Surgery was performed without complications. Visual acuity after the surgery is 0.6. Iris is round, without visible indentations. Using retractors in small pupil cataract surgery helps to avoid complications and achieve perfect results. Additional attention is necessary because of changed intraocular circumstances after vitreus body removal. Some additional experience of surgeon is needed.
