Satie wrote his Ogives a few years before the notorious Gymnopédies and Gnossiennes, but he was already doing what he would come to be famous for: inventing a form of composition and naming it weirdly. An ogive, in architecture, is a curve that forms the outline of a pointed gothic arch. For that reason, and also for the reminiscence of liturgic medieval music – especially plainchant – in the Ogives, the set is interpreted as a reference to the harmony of pipe organs, reverberating in big cathedrals. Thanks for watching! Let me know your thoughts on Satie and his Ogives in the comments.
