Along with the export volume, export sales saw a rise of nearly 19 percent to 4.15 billion U.S. dollars... an all-time high for the month of May. Among all cars, eco-friendly vehicles are leading the trend. Domestic consumption of eco-friendly cars jumped 45-point-3 percent last month to 41-thousand units. This is the first time that the monthly figure surpassed 40 thousand. Export volume also rose more than 45 percent to over 44-thousand units. It's now the seventeenth month that the figure has seen an on-year increase. An expert says dramatic production development in eco-friendly cars is contributing to this trend. "South Korean auto giants like Hyundai and Kia are now securing the best technology to produce eco-friendly cars. These vehicles have gained world-best titles, and this will eventually contribute to high demand for domestically built eco-friendly cars." However he added auto chip supply issues should first be resolved to meet the demand, as eco-friendly cars require at least double the number of chips than are used in cars with regular engines.
