JNU Campus Clash: ABVP's Ravan Dehen With Sarjeel, Umar Pics Sparks Row | India Today News

A confrontation erupted at Jawaharlal Nehru University between the Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) and Left-affiliated student groups. The ABVP conducted a Durga idol immersion and a 'Ravan Dehen', burning an effigy with pictures of Sarjeel Imam and Umar Khalid. The ABVP alleged that Left-affiliated students attacked their religious procession at the Sabarmati point. In response, Left organizations accused the ABVP of "using religion for political propaganda". The ABVP stated they had permission for the procession, which they claim was obstructed by the other groups who raised objectionable slogans.
