This documentary explores the complete rise and fall of Willys-Overland, the original American automaker behind the Jeep and one of the most important factories in U.S. industrial history. From a bankrupt automobile company rescued in 1907, to becoming the second-largest car manufacturer in America, Willys-Overland shaped Toledo, Ohio into a true factory city. During World War II, the Willys-Overland plant on Jeep Parkway produced one military Jeep every eighty seconds, helping the Allies win the war and creating one of the most iconic vehicles ever built. Yet despite inventing the Jeep and holding its trademark, the company itself could not survive peace, corporate takeovers, and decades of strategic missteps. This film examines the key decisions that sealed the factory’s fate — the departure of founder John North Willys, labor unrest, financial receivership, the Great Depression, and later ownership under Kaiser, AMC, Renault, Chrysler, and DaimlerChrysler. Through rare historical images and factory footage, we trace how the original Jeep factory slowly disappeared, ending with demolition in the early 2000s. What remains today is a single smokestack bearing the word “Overland” — the last physical reminder of the factory that built a legend, but could not survive its own success. #WillysOverland #JeepHistory #AbandonedFactories #AmericanIndustry #FactoryCollapse
