Apollo: Sun God and Son God
Apollo, one of the most celebrated gods in the Greek pantheon, shows the dual nature of the Greek Gods in that he is both beneficent and destructive to humans. He is the god of reason, moderation, youth, healing, and music, but also the god of punishment, plague, and sudden death. He was both a Sun God and a Son God, and as the son of Zeus, he was an intermediary between humans and the supreme deity, most popularly as the god of prophecy behind the famed Oracle of Delphi. He enters mythology often as a scorned lover (e.g. Cassandra, Daphne, Coronis) but is also the father of some key figures like Asclepius, the founder of the medical profession. He may have even been an ascendent supreme deity himself.
