Having sailed to the icy island, Shadow decides to test the cages for strength, and lo and behold, she manages to escape. But happiness does not last long, because the hunters were nearby and instantly shoot the escaped dragon. They put her in chains and bring her to the ship. Waking up, Shadow tries to escape, but then sees a strange man coming towards her. She decides to kill him, but not only is he not afraid of her, he begins to break her will. In the end, Shadow gets very scared of him and gives up, victoriously bowing her head in front of him. After that, she is locked in another cage. She doesn't live alone in the new cage, she has a neighbor named Sköll. She tries to make friends with him, but he's too worried. There is a screeching sound. The panic in Sköll's eyes grows at breakneck speed, and Shadow can't figure out why until a huge muzzle appears in the opening of their cage. She had never seen such a huge dragon in her life.
