In this video you can enjoy the cab ride - train driver's view from St. Moritz to Chur in Switzerland, along the Albula line from St. Moritz (1,775 m) to Thusis (697 m) and from there there along the Chur -Thusis line to Chur (585 m) in the resolution of 4K/60 frames per second. Embark on the first part of a breathtaking series documenting the full Glacier Express (GEX) journey, filmed in April 2025, from the cab perspective. This part of the route takes us from the elegant alpine resort of St. Moritz to the city of Chur, traveling along the iconic Albula Line—one of the most spectacular railway lines in the world. The Glacier Express, often referred to as the “slowest express train in the world,” is a legendary direct service connecting the mountain resorts of Zermatt and St. Moritz in an eight-hour panoramic journey through the heart of the Swiss Alps. Operated jointly by the Rhaetian Railway (RhB) and Matterhorn Gotthard Bahn (MGB), the GEX runs entirely on a meter-gauge network renowned for its engineering marvels and stunning landscapes. In this opening segment, we follow the RhB route across the Albula Line, part of the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Rhaetian Railway in the Albula/Bernina landscapes. This stretch includes tight curves, spiral tunnels, viaducts, and as of 2024, the brand-new Albula Tunnel II—a modern replacement running parallel to the historic tunnel, ensuring the continued reliability of this alpine railway artery. Departing from St. Moritz, situated at an elevation of 1,775 meters, the train meanders through the Engadin Valley, passing through Samedan and Bever. The route then ascends the Val Bever before entering the newly constructed Albula Tunnel II at Spinas. This 5,860-meter-long tunnel, inaugurated in June 2024, replaces the original 1903 tunnel, enhancing safety and operational efficiency while preserving the line's historical significance. Emerging at Preda, the train descends through a series of spirals and loops, showcasing the ingenious design required to navigate the challenging alpine terrain. The journey continues through picturesque villages like Bergün and Filisur, where the train crosses the iconic Landwasser Viaduct—a 65-meter-high, 142-meter-long stone bridge that seamlessly integrates with the surrounding landscape. As the train approaches Chur, the oldest city in Switzerland, passengers are treated to views of the Rhine Valley's lush landscapes. Throughout this journey, the Glacier Express traverses numerous tunnels and bridges, highlighting the remarkable engineering feats accomplished over a century ago.
