This is THE Most Powe... I know I know, I'm suddenly a hypocrite because I actually purchased an insecticide. In this case, an 87 year old woman was stopped from doing lawn maintenance (yes, she still does that on her own) because yellow jacket wasps decided to take charge of her backyard. She contacted me several times for help with those "bees"! I knew based on the description that we weren't going to be dealing with bees, but suspected that they would be yellow jackets (wasps). They were in the middle of the yard, not under a tree, or off to the side somewhere and considering her age and potential for being stung many times which could be a serious health risk, I agreed to come and deal with them for her. I did some research first and wanted to use something that wouldn't poison her yard (neighbor wanted to pour diesel fuel in and light it (';') um... please don't. So, I settled on DeltaDust by Bayer, which has Deltamethrin as the active ingredient. As that's frequently used in cat and dog flea collars, I felt I'd break down and use it on the wasps. It's not a risk to mammals and I felt pretty solid about it not becoming an environmental hazard. Deltamethrin at .05% and I suspect the remainder of the powder is composed of diatomaceous earth, aka DE. Which is something I use around the chickens and in the coops. Well, it works as shown in the video. She is happy to have her backyard back with no big black burnt patch to show for it. I'm content with the results and thought a video may be helpful. Had to happen some day I suppose. Many are recommending GASOLINE as a method of control, please don't do that, here's why: There are several reasons why you should not use gasoline to kill in-ground wasps. It is dangerous. Gasoline is a flammable liquid that can easily ignite, posing a fire hazard to you, your home, and the surrounding area. It is toxic. Gasoline fumes can be harmful to breathe, and they can also contaminate soil and groundwater. It is ineffective. Gasoline will not kill the entire wasp colony, and it may actually flush the wasps out, making them more aggressive. HOW LONG WILL GASOLINE PERSIST IN SOIL? The persistence of gasoline in soil depends on a number of factors, including the type of soil, the amount of gasoline spilled, and the weather conditions. In general, gasoline can persist in soil for several months to years. Type of soil: Gasoline is more likely to persist in clay soils than in sandy soils. This is because clay soils are more dense and have less air, which makes it more difficult for the gasoline to evaporate. Amount of gasoline spilled: The more gasoline that is spilled, the longer it will persist in the soil. This is because the gasoline will have a greater surface area to interact with the soil. Weather conditions: Gasoline evaporates more quickly in warm, dry weather than in cold, wet weather. This is because the heat and wind help to evaporate the gasoline. The following are some of the ways that gasoline can persist in soil: Evaporation: Gasoline is a volatile liquid, which means that it evaporates easily. However, not all of the gasoline will evaporate. Some of the gasoline will remain in the soil as a liquid or a vapor. Sorption: Gasoline can be sorbed, or absorbed, by soil particles. This means that the gasoline molecules will stick to the surface of the soil particles. Chemical reactions: Gasoline can react with soil particles or other chemicals in the soil. This can change the chemical composition of the gasoline and make it more difficult to remove. If gasoline is spilled on the soil, it is important to clean it up as quickly as possible. The longer the gasoline is allowed to remain in the soil, the more likely it is to persist and cause problems.
