Liz Truss pulled out of a scheduled visit on Wednesday to a business in Hertfordshire with No10 not giving any reason for the last-minute cancellation of the trip. Just hours earlier, Downing Street said the Prime Minister was going on the visit. Ms Truss had been expected to take questions from broadcasters at the electronics business site. The trip was ditched shortly after she announced at Prime Minister’s Questions that the Government was committed to the “triple lock” on pensions. On Tuesday, the Prime Minister’s official spokesman said he could not make “any commitments” on the pensions triple lock. There is speculation that the chairman of the Tory backbench 1922 Committee Sir Graham Brady had already received more than 54 letters calling for a confidence vote in the PM - the threshold for triggering one if Ms Truss was not in the 12 months’ grace period for new leaders.
