Kathak artist, Charlotte Moraga, principal dancer of the Chitresh Das Dance Company, dances excerpts from thaat in the tradition of upaj. With upaj, rather than being based on choreography or fixed set of movements, the dancer improvises , flowing with the feeling of the music and environment. The dancer must be skilled in the four elements of tayare, laykari, khubsurti, and nazakut. Her guru, Pandit Chitresh Das accompanies, as well as Sri Jayanta Bannerjee on Sitar, Wasi Ahmed Khan on tabla, and Himanshu Nanda on flute. This is a an excerpt from 'Bridges.' "'Bridges' featured mulitiple generations of Pandit Das' disciples and was performed at Godrej Theatre, NCPA, Mumbai in July 2010.
