Harm Reduction – One Way to Reduce Addiction and Follow the Science NH Superior Court Chief Justice, Tina Nadeau, delivers the Perkins Bass Distinguished Lecture. Rockefeller Center Associate Director, Ronald G. Shaiko, hosts. Monday, November 8, 2021 5:00pm-6:00pm Filene Auditorium, Moore Building Lecture Info: Myth vs. Science: When policy decisions are made based upon fear, emotion, or incomplete information, they make us feel better but is that really problem solving? During this session we will focus upon evidence-based approaches to reducing addiction, and resulting health problems, that have been effective in other countries. As part of our discussion we will examine why those successful models face challenges in the U.S. Speaker Bio: Tina Nadeau was appointed Associate Justice to the New Hampshire Superior Court in 1996, and in 2011, was appointed Chief Justice of the Superior Court. In 2013, Nadeau received a fellowship to attend the Kennedy School of Government program on Executive Leadership; the Eric Cogswell Achievement award, recognizing commitment to addressing the over incarceration of offenders with mental illness; and, the 2013 Marillia Ricker Women in Leadership award. In 2015 she received the New Futures Advocacy award and the Manchester Mental Health Wheelok-Nardi award for her work advocating for those with mental health and substance use disorder. In 2016 she received the NH Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counseling Association Kathleen Taylor Legislator Award. In 2017 she received the New England Association of Drug Court Professionals Leadership Award. Justice Nadeau is currently a board member of the New England Association of Drug Court Professionals, and New Futures, a nonprofit organization that works to reduce substance use disorder. She is also a faculty member of the National Association of Drug Court Professionals. In June, 2020 she was appointed as an inaugural member of the national Council on Criminal Justice and served as a member of the COVID-19 task force. Host Bio: Ronald G. Shaiko is a Senior Fellow and the Associate Director for Curricular and Research Programs at The Nelson A. Rockefeller Center for Public Policy and the Social Sciences. The 2019-2020 academic year marks his 33nd year of university teaching and his 19th year at Dartmouth College.
