We Finally Cleared a Path to the River! 🌿 Huge Farm Transformation in Portugal 🇵🇹 Ep. 79

This week on Plan it Portugal, we focus on the land — clearing, restoring and preparing for the months ahead — while still carrying the heavy reality of being 25 days without our beloved dog Alfie. We’ve been working hard to transform the lower half of our off-grid style farm in rural Portugal. The strimming is finally done (apart from the mini vineyard!) and the difference is incredible. Rob tackles broom and endless brambles as he clears a path all the way down to the river — a beautiful area we can’t wait to enjoy this summer, sat beside the stream after all the hard work. In the vegetable garden we get more seeds started, clear and weed the beds, and prepare planting areas for root vegetables due to our ongoing mole problem. Every step forward brings us closer to a more productive and sustainable smallholding. After being asked to move the huge rocks from the terrace wall collapse, we bring them inside the gate and break down the largest pieces using the SDS drill — heavy work, but progress feels good! We also burn piles of broom, mimosa and brambles cleared from the land, knowing there’s still plenty more to come as we continue down towards the river. Alongside the farm work, we go searching for more material to pan and do some additional clearing around the mine collapse — always curious about what this land might reveal next. And through it all… we continue to hope. It’s now 25 days since Alfie went missing, and while we try to stay positive and keep moving forward, we still hope one day he will find his way home.
