Today, even if you are super self-reliant and self sufficient, you still need a bit of money. Property taxes, car or truck registration, cell phone, there are a few things we all need money for. Making money from home to provide for your needs. The comment I hear the most is how can you make a profit from a small home based business? Would you rather make fifteen hundred dollars, twenty thousand dollars, or fifty thousand dollars? Doing basically the same thing from home. Here’s the key, one thing to focus on in your business. Always remember, you do not get paid for your time. Yes, working hard is important, but you make money and therefore a profit when you bring value to the market. The more value you add to your product or service, the more people will want to pay more money for it. For example, we homestead and have chickens. If I were to ask people how can I make money? What can I do to make a little extra cash? You would say, sell eggs. Without getting all algebra-e, what kind of profit can we make selling eggs? Where we live we sell eggs for three fifty a dozen. Three dollars and fifty cents. Chicken food costs about a buck twenty five per dozen, and you need a nice carton, another fifty cents, to put your eggs in. And let’s say twenty five cents for other needs bringing out cost, our expenses, up to two dollars a dozen eggs. Meaning we are making one dollar and fifty cents per dozen eggs. One fifty. Now you are thinking, okay that’s all fine an’ dandy, but how much will we make in a year? We have sixty chickens laying two hundred eggs. With twelve eggs in a dozen it works out to one thousand dozen eggs. Wow, one thousand dozen eggs per year. A thousand is a pretty big number. Okay, how much do we make per dozen? A dollar fifty. A buck fifty times one thousand is fifteen hundred dollars. Sixty chickens, cleaning coops, watering every day, feeding every day, collecting eggs every day… Three hundred and sixty five days for fifteen hundred bucks. Doesn’t sound so good now., does it? How can we add value? How can we get people to want to pay more money, a lot more money, for the same eggs? We make money bringing value to the market place. How can we bring more value and therefore make more money, with eggs? Selling one dozen farm fresh eggs for eating gets you three dollars and fifty cents. Selling this exact same dozen eggs for hatching chicks gets you twenty dollars or even more. And you don’t need the fancy box, more profit. Now your one thousand dozen eggs is generating twenty thousand dollars. Let’s say you hatch the eggs and sell the chicks. Adding more value. Depending on the breed, you should get three dollars, four dollars, five dollars or more. This same dozen eggs, your one thousand dozen eggs per year is generating fifty thousand dollars. Where ever you live and whatever you do to make money. Ask yourself, how can I add value to generate more money in my pocket? One thousand dozen eggs. Depending on the value, fifteen hundered, twenty thousand, or sixty thousand dollars. It’s up to you. Don’t put all of your eggs in one basket. We do a little of all these methods.
