This past summer we traveled 9 straight weeks in Europe, visited 4 countries and 13 different towns and capitals. We’re still digesting all the experiences and adventures we had as a family and are happy to share some of them with you. In the next part of our trip we spent one month traveling through Italy. Our first Italian destination was Pisa. Stop #5 on our Summer travel extravaganza. We lucked out and found a sweet little place on the river nestled perfectly in between the city of Pisa and Marina de Pisa. Complementary bikes made it easy for us to bike to and from both places, fist the city and the beach second. A “short” 10km round trip was made easy on amazing bike paths beautifully lined with sunflowers in either direction. Pisa, is the charming city in central Italy, in the Toscana (Tuscany) regione. The city lies on the alluvial plain of the Arno River, about 6 miles (10 km) from the Ligurian Sea and 50 miles (80 km) west of Florence. Pisa lay by the sea until the 15th century, by which time accumulated silt deposited by the Arno River had completely cut the city off from the receding shoreline. Beach of the Marina of Pisa The Marina di Pisa is the main and most famous bathing area of the city and is connected to the center of Pisa by the SP224 road, but also by a bike path, so one of the best alternatives to get to know the Marina is to make an excursion by bike.
