Do We REALLY Have Freedom of Choice?

Life is about choice. What we eat, what we read, who we elect; every day we make choices that determine how we want to live. But what if these choices are just an illusion? Do we have freedom of choice? What are the four factors that determine who we become in life? What is our source? How does the environment change who we are? Where is the true choice that determines our course of life? We know that the laws operating in nature are immutable, like iron. This system restrains us, not allowing us to move freely, in any direction whatsoever. I do not choose the part of the world I am born or live in, or in what period of time. I do not choose my family, my social environment, my hereditary traits nor my characteristics. I can’t even choose my demise. So what do I have control over? If the entire universe is a system of immutable laws, where am I in all this? Where is my free will? Let’s look at the factors that determine the choice. 1) OUR SOURCE. Any object or phenomenon in the world does not come from nothing. For example, ice is formed from water, a plant develops from a seed, and we are a continuation of our parents. The essence that sets the vector of development of any phenomenon is called the source. The source of man is the set of properties that we get as a gift from our ancestors. And it is not only our physical appearance but also our character, like ideas thoughts, and feelings pass to us from past generations in the forms of special attributes or qualities, as potential waiting to be realized. 2) OUR ATTRIBUTES, THAT DO NOT CHANGE. There are qualities we can acknowledge as unchanging in the world, such as wheat can grow only from wheat seed, and a bear will only be birthed from a bear. This is somewhat true for human traits as well. For example, if you were born with the talent of a musician, you won’t want to become a politician. There is a possibility that you will become a musician or a composer, although this is not a fact. But there is no doubt about one thing, the penchant for music will remain. Still, the development of natural attributes does still depend on the environment in which the person grows up. 3) QUALITIES THAT DO CHANGE. For example, the height of wheat stalks that grow from seeds will depend on the quality of the soil as well as the amount of water and light that feeds it, and so on. Our inner attributes and qualities can also develop to a greater or lesser extent, or not at all. For example, the tendency to greed will not be manifested if society gives a person confidence in the absolute welfare of his existence and will not consider greed as a positive quality. So what is the conclusion? A person completely depends on the environment. 4) EXTERNAL INFLUENCES. The environment in which the soul develops is also within a wider environment which affects the source. For example, global warming can negatively affect the quality of the soil, the amount of water and light that plants receive, and so affect their development. Thus, my wider environment affects my immediate environment and so it impacts me directly. In the same way, a world economic crisis can exacerbate my quality of greed. Thus we can say that these four factors determine the stages of development of any creation. Foremost is the source, which is something implanted in us before we were born and without our consent. But with regards to other factors, we do have freedom.
