This video is about a big question in physics: is reality smooth and continuous, or is it made of tiny, fundamental “pixels” of space and time? Our two best theories, general relativity (which describes gravity and large things) and quantum mechanics (which describes the very small), don’t work together well, especially when looking at things like black holes or the beginning of the universe. This conflict leads scientists to wonder if space and time themselves have a smallest possible unit, called the Planck length and Planck time. Several theories, like Loop Quantum Gravity and String Theory, suggest that at this incredibly small scale, spacetime isn’t smooth but is instead grainy and discrete, like a grid or staircase. This means reality might not be infinitely divisible, and the smooth universe we experience is an illusion created by these tiny “pixels.” It’s a frontier of physics we haven’t yet been able to explore beyond our current understanding.
