Right after Labor Day, I became one of the 300,000+ Black women laid off this year. I had just finished an international assignment I was proud of. No warning signs. No bad reviews. Just gone. Even when it’s said with compassion, those words, “Your role has been eliminated,” still hit hard. The shock. The disbelief. The quiet shame that follows. But sitting at my mother’s kitchen table that day, she looked at me and said, 💬 “You will not wallow in this. You’ve been through worse than this.” And somehow, in that moment, I believed her. So I gave myself permission to grieve but not get stuck. To feel the loss but not lose myself. To rest but not retreat in shame. Because purpose doesn’t end with a position. And leadership isn’t defined by a title.
