Growing up with Momentum - Romina's Story

Your support makes a lifetime of impact. Romina was six years old when she received her first wheelchair from Wheels for Humanity (through our partner Teletón in El Salvador), and her whole world opened up. For the first time, she was able to go to kindergarten, explore her neighborhood, and move with confidence. “It made me feel good. I could do everything by myself,” Romina, now 14, says. Over the years, Romina has received new wheelchairs as she’s grown, each one helping her stay active, independent, and safe. Earlier this year, she had outgrown her latest chair. It was worn down and no longer provided the fit or support she needed. Thanks to supporters like you, Romina received a new, custom-fit wheelchair in November 2025. “The more I grow up, the more I understand that being a person with a disability doesn’t make me better or worse than anyone else,” Romina shares. As Romina prepares to celebrate her fifteenth birthday, she says her new wheelchair will help her show off her quinceañera dress—and move confidently into the future she’s building for herself.
