Lost Foam Casting: Making Plaster Feeders & Vents - by VOGMAN

A while ago now I shared a Green Sand Lost Foam Casting technique that uses plaster of Paris vents & feeders (risers) to greatly improve upon the process. This has proved very popular so today I’m sharing a few simplified techniques to make these feeders and vents, quickly, easily and cheaply, time and time again. This includes the production and use of a home made silicone mold. There’s many advantages to using these as I’ve outlined before, but in short they greatly assist lost foam casting by delivering the molten metal accurately, keeping the metal hotter for longer, allowing for better venting of gasses, incorporating a riser effect and improving on safety.
