Visvesvaraya and inaugurated by Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru First gallery on electricity was opened in 1965 by Indira Gandhi Operates under the National Council of Science Museums (NCSM), Ministry of Culture, as its southern headquarters 🧪 Galleries & Exhibits VITM features eight permanent galleries, with over 350 interactive exhibits : 1. Engine Hall – Showcases steam, jet, diesel and internal‑combustion engines, plus the Wright Flyer replica 2. How Things Work / Fun Science – Demonstrates basic mechanical principles via hands‑on exhibits in optics, sound, light, fluid dynamics, illusions . The gallery was recently revamped and renamed Fun City with 40 new digital and interactive displays 3. Electro‑Technic Gallery – Illustrates electricity, electronics, communications with Tesla coils, Van de Graaff generator and classic experiments like Oersted’s and Faraday’s using 62 exhibits over 723 m² 4. Space Technology Gallery – Showcases India’s space program (ISRO), rocket models, astronaut simulations, mirroring the “Emerging Technology in Service of Mankind” theme established in 1999 5. Biotechnological Revolution Hall – Introduced in 2003 with interactive displays on genome, biotech innovations; renovated in 2021 6. BEL Hall of Electronics – Created jointly with Bharat Electronics Ltd in 2004; covers digital electronics, communications, virtual environment and computing 7. Science for Children – Launched in 2019; includes playful installations about senses, animals, mirror maze, photo kiosks with animal backdrops 🎨 Special Attractions & Shows Wright Brothers Flyer & Flight Simulator – A full-scale replica built in-house (inspired by Smithsonian plans) plus a flight simulator experience . Science on a Sphere – Asia’s only spherical projection system, showing animated Earth and planetary data (climate, tsunamis, solar system themes) . 3D Theatre, Spark Theatre with high-voltage demos, planetarium (Taramandal), sky observation via telescope, mobile science exhibition bus, and auditorium 🕒 Visiting Info Open daily from 09:30 AM to 6:00 PM, closed only on Deepavali and Ganesha Chaturthi . Recommended visit duration: half a day to cover all zones 🎟️ Admission Charges (subject to slight rise Aug 1) General Visitors: ₹95 (rising to ₹100) Organised school groups: ₹35 Govt/municipal school groups: ₹10 BPL card holders: ₹10 (free for children below 5, police/military personnel in uniform, and people with disabilities) 🧭 Getting There Located centrally on Kasturba Road, adjacent to Cubbon Park, Vidhan Soudha, and Government Museum (around 1 km from Cubbon Park metro or MG Road area) Public transport options: Metro: Get off at Cubbon Park or Vidhana Soudha stations, then a short walk through Cubbon Park.
