Exactly what Julian had originally feared, and what drove him to seek political refuge in Ecuador's London embassy Julian was sentenced to 50 weeks in jail and was sent to Belmarsh maximum security prison to serve his sentence. Although his sentence ended. Julian has continued to be held in Belmarsh awaiting his extradition trial at the old bailey. When the trial began. On the First day the US attorneys submitted new prosecution documents. Possibly to try and circumnavigate the fact that the was a political dimension to the extradition. Which is not a basis on which we agree extraditions in the UK. Julian remains detained in Belmarsh awaiting to see if the Americans will submit an appeal District Judge Vanessa Baraitser ruled that in the interest of justice he must continue to be held to allow the Americans to have another go, i.e. make an appeal.
