Timestamps OR Chapters: 0:00 Introduction of Bo Taoshi 0:33 How to Play Bo Taoshi? 1:51 How to Win in Bo Taoshi? Today, in our sports encyclopedia series we will talk about Bo Taoshi. Bo - Taoshi is a Japanese sport that shares a lot of similarities with the capture the flag game. This rugged game is played by cadets of Japan’s National Defense Academy during its anniversary and students on their annual sports day. The objective of the game for each player is to attack the opposing team’s pole and lower it down while defending their own pole. Bo Taoshi is a team sport that involves two teams competing against each other. In the game, each team consists of 150 people out of which 75 are defenders and 75 are attackers. The objective of the defensive player is to defend their own pole while the attackers get to the other team’s pole. In the game, every player is assigned a duty. The pole support holds the pole in the vertical position. The barrier protects the pole from any physical obstruction. The interference is supposed to pester and barge in attacks near or in the barrier. A scrum disabler is required to stop the opposing team members from running on top of the pole. The ninja stands at the top of the pole and protects it from there. The springboard is the member of the attacking team who makes it easier for the runner to jump over the barrier and have trouble-free access to the other team’s pole. Pole attackers bring the ninja down and help in bringing the other team’s pole down by tackling the general support attackers. The players are only allowed to punch, kick and gouge. The team that manages to bring the pole down first is declared the winner. Participants are required to lower the other team’s pole perpendicularly to a thirty-degree angle. It is necessary that the angle is carefully considered while lowering the pole to determine if the team wins the game.
