Set shortly after Mega Man 4, Dr. Wily once again attempts to take over the world, with Proto Man leading an army of robots in a series of destructive attacks on the world. He also kidnaps Dr. Light, Proto Man's own creator in the process. Assisted by Beat, a robot bird gifted to him by Dr. Cossack, Mega Man sets off on an adventure to stop Proto Man as well as Dr. Wily.
