Jan Hus was one of the most influential reformers of the late medieval period. Born in Bohemia in the fourteenth century, he rose from humble origins to become a powerful preacher at Bethlehem Chapel in Prague. Inspired by the teachings of John Wycliffe, Hus began challenging corruption within the medieval Catholic Church, particularly the sale of indulgences and the growing authority of the papacy. His message quickly spread among the Czech population and students at the University of Prague, turning Hus into both a religious reformer and a symbol of Czech identity. But his growing influence also brought him into direct conflict with Church authorities. After being excommunicated, Hus continued preaching and writing, most famously in his work On the Church, where he laid out his vision of a reformed Christian community. In fourteen fifteen he was summoned to the Council of Constance under the promise of safe conduct. Instead of receiving a fair hearing, Hus was arrested, tried for heresy and burned at the stake. His death shocked Europe and ignited the Hussite movement, which would soon rise in rebellion against both the Holy Roman Empire and the Catholic Church. This documentary explores the life of Jan Hus, the political tensions of Bohemia, the events surrounding the Council of Constance and the explosive rise of the Hussite wars. It also examines how Hus influenced later reformers such as Martin Luther and why many historians see him as one of the earliest voices of the Protestant Reformation. #JanHus, #HussiteWars, #ChurchHistory, #ProtestantReformation
