Sugar Flower Tutorial: Classic Rose | Honey Crumb Cake Studio The ultimate sugar flower for cake artists, and we’re here with a detailed tutorial to help you master it! We’ll show you how to make this gorgeous & timeless rose from start to finish, and how to add realistic color accents using petal dusts. For you fellow flower nerds out there, our roses in this tutorial are based on a variety called “Peach Avalanche”. Tools & materials needed: Gumpaste Gel colors (I used "Deep Pink", "Egg Yellow", and "Ivory" by Americolor to create the peach paste used in the tutorial) Cornstarch to prevent sticking Shortening (optional; to condition & moisturize your gumpaste while kneading it) Water, egg whites, or edible glue, plus a small paintbrush 1” styrofoam rose cone or 1" styrofoam ball 18 g floral wire (green) and 24 g floral wire (white) 5-petal rose cutter (I am using the JEM “Easy Rose Cutter”, 100mm size) Individual rose petal cutters or tear drop cutters in two sizes (1” wide, and 1-1/4” wide) Fine scissors Gumpaste rolling pin, foam pad, and large/medium ball tool CelBoard (optional) Dresden tool CelStick or mini frilling tool (or bamboo skewer!) Petal dusts (I used Squire’s Kitchen “Chestnut Brown”, Sunflower Sugar Art “Apple Green”, Crystal Colors “Fuchsia” & “Pumpkin”) Dusting brushes — one flat-edged brush, and one round/fluffy brush Green floral tape Petal guide: Cut 6x petals with 100mm “Easy Rose Cutter” for the first two layers Cut 5x petals with 1” wide rose petal cutter or teardrop cutter for the next layer (I always cut 6, in case I tear one during veining, etc) Cut 5 more petals with 1” wide rose petal cutter or teardrop cutter for the third layer (I always cut 6, in case I tear one during veining, etc) Finally, cut 7 petals with 1-1/4” wide rose petal cutter or teardrop cutter for the final layer, which will be WIRED Thanks for watching!
