Thank you for watching our Yukkuri Kagekidan videos. This time, we're bringing you a transport trivia video, featuring the world's only remaining sea-based transport: the Hovercraft in Southern England. We're headed to the Isle of Wight, just 10km south, and the excitement is palpable even from the waiting room as we watch the hovercraft come and go. We'll share the experience of boarding, the interior, and the hovercraft's unique feature of rising above water through air power. Despite the brief 10-minute journey, there were surprising discoveries. We explore why the hovercraft, discontinued in many countries, survives in the UK, uncovering a blend of unique British geographical conditions. But the Isle of Wight's transport quirks don't end with the hovercraft. We'll also explore other interesting modes of transport, including trains made from pre-war London Underground carriages and heritage railways featuring steam and diesel locomotives. This island, with its shallow coastal waters, cannot accommodate large ferries or car ferries near the shore. Therefore, long piers, extending about 600 meters into the sea, have been constructed to reach adequate water depths for ferry docking. These lengthy piers even have railways, with small, two-car, former London Underground trains ferrying passengers back and forth. These quaint trains, with their clanking traction sound, gently shake their passengers as they leisurely travel across the island.
