(26 Apr 2014) The search for the lost remains of Miguel de Cervantes, one of the most famous Spanish writers, will begin next Monday and, if successful, the findings could be revealed at the end of the year, a team of researchers announced on Friday. Cervantes was buried in the convent of the Discalced Trinitarians, in downtown Madrid nearly four centuries ago. However the coffin with his remains was lost during construction work at the church. Historian Fernando de Prado, who is taking part in the hunt for Cervantes' remains explained that the first phase of the search would be conducted by a radar expert - Luis Avial. Avial will use ground-penetrating equipment to map the artefacts buried beneath the church. De Prado said he was the one, who insisted on finding the lost remains of the author of "Don Quixote," as next year marks the fourth centenary of the author's death. Forensic anthropologist Francisco Etxeberria, who is also taking part in the search, said it was important to gather as much information about Cervantes' physical features as possible to be able to accurately identify the remains. Taking all the available information about Cervantes into account, experts believe his remains would be relatively easy to identify. The Spanish author reportedly had lost the use of his left arm due to injuries sustained in the famous battle of Lepanto, in 1571, when the Holy League, led by Spain defeated the Ottoman Turks. The estimated cost of the whole operation is 100-thousand euros ( 138,378 US dollars).
