On September 1, 2021, a panel discussion was held at the ACFNY to provide a deeper insight into the lives and works of the three artists that wielded mighty pens: Lily Renée, Bil Spira, and Paul Peter Porges. From March 11 - September 3, 2021, the ACFNY presented "Three with a Pen," an exhibition that honors the lives and legacies of these featured artists. The "three with a pen" are connected by the same fate. Growing up in Vienna, they had a passion for drawing at a young age. As Jews at the time of the so-called "Anschluss", they had to leave their hometown and found success elsewhere. Renée, Spira, and Porges depended on their drawing pencils as armor for survival and the means to make a living. This discussion was moderated by Mimi Bluestone and included the following panelists: David Armstrong, Bob Mankoff, David Nelson, and Trina Robbins. Opening remarks were given by Deputy Director Christian Ebner and Eric Huebscher, the U.S. President of the Friends of the Jewish Museum Vienna.
