Hi everyone! Welcome on board a brand new ride on my channel! This time a special video. I thought it would be nice to show you the new situation in Den Haag towards Leiden. But when I continued recording towards Amsterdam something happened that I haven't seen in my 10 years of working for NS so far. Get ready for a the ride of your life. And keep your eyes open! 0:00 Den Haag Centraal Alright. Let's start with what this video was meant for. The new situation in Den Haag. On the left side you can see the tracks 11 and 12 are back in business! These were metro tracks for years and now they are in use for trains again. Yay! Also the rail yard had a lot of changes. Switches that allow 60km/h instead of 40km/h are installed. This allows us to depart and arrive on higher speed from/to Den Haag! Enjoy the 'speedy departure'. Of course we must still first pass the speed sign before it's allowed to speed up. In the future rules for this will change. Making it possible to depart with the speed allowed on the ATB-system. But that's still in the future. 2:44 Den Haag Laan van NOI 4:43 Den Haag Mariahoeve 7:48 Voorschoten 9:19 De Vink + Bridge The bridge at De Vink has overhead wires. This allows trains to keep traction while passing it. Most drivers shut off the traction anyway when on time. But when behind on schedule the wires can be used to win back some time! 9:59 Leiden Centraal A longer stop at Leiden than normally due to a changed train schedule (construction works elsewhere). 22:52 Alarming Situation! Now this is the situation I was not hoping for, but we have do deal with it ASAP! Check out the train coming from the opposite direction. Its pantograph looks crooked. After zooming in you can see the damage. Of course I could not see the damage this close then I was driving, but I did see something was wrong with it. A few seconds pass by to decide what to do. I decide to send out a alarm call to all trains and train dispatcher in the area. All trains nearby will start running on sight as soon as they see the alarm call on their GSM-R display. Even if I would not say a word. I send out the message: "This is a alarm call for the driver between Voorhout and Leiden. Your pantograph is crooked!" And I repeat this message after that. The driver from that train immediately stopped the train after hearing the message. Why is this important? Well, what if the pantograph damages the overhead installation as well? That would mean no train on the line for the rest of the day! While sending out the alarm call I also kept on checking the overhead wires for the other track. To see if anything go damaged because of the crooked pantograph. Thankfully there was no damage yet. So after the train had stopped the situation was safe again! 23:17 Voorhout In the meantime we pass by Voorhout with a small delay. After the alarm call the train dispatcher asks if the call was meant for the sprinter or the intercity running between Voorhout and Leiden. A sprinter had passed us out of our sight in the other direction as well. After that I let everyone know it was meant for the intercity. The sprinter can continue it's journey (driving on sight). After the situation was safe and I could not see any damage to the overhead wires I called the train dispatcher to check if any other call had come in for other alarming situation. That was not the case. So we are good to speed up again! All info is in the video. But the defective train was of course taken out of service for repairing after this incident. 22:35 VAM Noordwijkerhout 27:15 Lisse The train dispatcher led trains around the defective train from this point on using the switches in Lisse and Leiden. 29:03 Hillegom 30:09 Province Border From Zuid to Noord-Holland! 31:05 Heemstede-Aerdenhout 34:35 Haarlem Goederen 36:07 Haarlem Zuidelijke splitsing (Connection) 36:47 Haarlem Arrival at the stunning old station of Haarlem. Now we enter the oldest railway line in The Netherlands (Haarlem - Amsterdam). 40:55 Spaarnebrug 41:25 Workshop Haarlem 42:24 Haarlem Spaarnwoude 44:45 Halfweg-Zwanenburg 47:27 Amsterdam Sloterdijk A Short stop at Sloterdijk before we continue to our final stop. 51:30 Overbrakerpolder Connection Tracks coming from Westhaven and Schiphol joining in. 52:51 Singelgrachtbrug 53:22 Amsterdam Centraal Arrival at our final stop. It was a hell of ride. So happy I spotted the issue with the pantograph of the other train. After the issue was resolved train traffic was restarted for the rest of the day.
