Mom’s 16mm Film Notes Car arriving – Looks to be a 1946 Chevy People exiting car are Milt Ranck and Betty. The baby is probably Christyann, their first born. They are met by Mom at the Safe Harbor home. Mom is probably around 15, so that would date the film at 1948 or 1949. Second car arriving is also post World War II vintage. Exiting are Mom’s Aunt Arlene (One of Granddaddy Bauer’s sisters), Mom’s brother (Elmer M. Bauer, “Brother), Dottie Erisman, probably his fiancé at the time, and Mom’s grandparents, Grandpa and Grandma Bauer. Next couple are Betty and Milt Ranck (Mom’s sister and brother-in-law). Grandpa Bauer is pouring and drinking his beer. Next shot – Grandpa and Grandma Bauer and Arlene leaving. Also Betty and Milt, Mom and Grammy Bauer (Alice), Dottie and Brother, all posing for the group shot. Next several frames are of Brother and Dottie; the Granddaddy and Grammy Bauer and Mom. Don’t know who is taking all of these pictures. Next shot is Brother and Mom jitterbugging on the front walk at Safe Harbor. Snow in the Villages. Do not know who is shoveling, but it may be Granddaddy Bauer. That looks to be about a 1939 Plymouth at the curb. Could be Grammy hanging clothes in the back yard Next – Dottie Erisman leaving the Erisman house in Lancaster. Brother and Dottie leaving the Erisman house in Lancaster. The Shack was Granddaddy’s workshop, but mostly used to collect Granddaddy’s junk. Following Granddaddy’s retirement from Safe Harbor, the trailer was installed in back of this building, just down the hill, on part of the property. Mom with her Grandmother Bauer. Some other here are unidentified. We do not know this couple (reference 4:41 minutes into the film) Mom’s Grandmother and Grandfather Bauer with the Martins. These are parents of Helen, Granddaddy’s first wife and Betty and Brother’s mother. Granddaddy coming out of Safe Harbor house during same snow storm. Betty with Christyann This is the color portion of the film. Lots of family, apparently. Mom is in a blue dress in this shot. Grandpa and Grandma Bauer and Brother and Dottie are here. Looks to be lots of family and neighbors. You will see two girls dressed alike. These are twins (names forgotten) who were daughters of one of Granddaddy’s sisters and hence Mom’s cousins. Believe they are younger than Mom. Next is a shot of the grandparents Bauer. Looks like a celebration, maybe a wedding anniversary as they are wearing a boutonniere (Grandpa Bauer) and a corsage (Grandma Bauer). A shot of Betty’s in Refton. Christyann is walking and Elizabeth is the baby in arms. Must be around 1949-1950. The clothesline at Betty’s (the grape vines were planted here in later years).
