This week’s text urges us to take an honest look at our faith—not by checking off spiritual routines like church attendance or communion, nor by gauging the intensity of our emotions, but by looking to the steady and trustworthy person of Christ. A clearer path to self-examination is to move away from vague or fear-driven doubts and hypotheticals and instead ask real, biblically grounded questions. Questions like “What if God won’t forgive me?” lead only to uncertainty, but the question “Will God forgive me?” has a clear and confident answer in Scripture: Yes, He will. Throughout the story of God’s people, seasons of examination are crucial. For those who see the work of grace in their lives—freedom from sin, love for Christ, and a bold witness—this kind of reflection leads to humility, gratitude, and worship. But for those who recognize hardness or apathy in their hearts, the call is urgent: hear God’s voice today, repent, and receive His mercy. This isn’t a solo journey. We need each other to guard against sin’s deceit. We must welcome accountability and notice when we start avoiding those who challenge us spiritually. That’s often a warning sign of a hardening heart. So today, take stock of your faith, ask honest questions, encourage someone in their walk, and respond to Christ’s voice with trust and repentance.
