Procrastination at its finest. Over a year since I completed my double RX-93 quest and teased this one but it is done. I've actually got a whole pile of kits to work on. It's just that I'm just good at finding other things to do besides things that I intend to do. I have to say though that once I sat down to work on it, out of every kit so far, this was probably the most fulfilling. Not just for its simplicity but also in just how sturdy it is and the amount of articulation it allows. It still doesn't do everything I want but my complaints are few. This Gouf is the HGUC 196 Revive version released from 2016 onward. As such there have been many adjustments and revisions since the original dating back to 1980. This may lend credence as to why it just felt so good to work on. It was nice actually to be able to really handle the damn thing without worrying about it coming apart. The joints feel solid, parts don't feel like they're going to fall off while adjusting them. It would be nice if this level of care and attention was given to all kits. In building, I went slightly out of order as opposed to following the assembly sheet to the letter as it allowed for the build to progress smoother for the video. It also came with an extra set of head pieces that confused me at first but after assembling the pieces referenced by the instructions, I went back and looked at them again and realized the exhaust port and base piece that connects to the ball swivel were a bit smaller and allowed for better movement so I went with that one. Decals are pretty much non-existent. Which is good because I really do think I prefer the minimalist approach. Excessive decals just look like clutter. The only one this came with is the mono-eye sticker and that was fine by me. Funnily enough, it was also my only "gouf" as I got ahead of myself and didn't notice it had a flat edge that was supposed to align upwards. Hardly noticeable unless you're looking at it from 2 inches away though, so I let it be rather than fight with it. Panel lining turned out great as usual. Ordered some more markers so I can touch up spots that have obvious fading from gate separation when being cut from the runners. Should have done that a while back. And I guess they'll come in handy for future projects, too. Production issues have mostly been resolved. I finally fixed my lighting issue! :D And it wasn't the lighting! :D It was because I'm a dumbass and kept picking the wrong settings on my camera! :D Speaking of wrong camera settings, I also realized during editing that the primary blue shows up way too light and looks like the shade used on the Gouf Custom. The difference should be fairly obvious when you watch the final assembly slideshow at the end as those shots are taken with my phone rather than my main camera. So that's another setting issue to take care of but shouldn't be too hard. Aside from that it looks like my tripod nudged ever so slightly again. I really oughta weigh that thing down. No idea how many parts this clocks in at but considering I took less than 200 photos it's nowhere near anything else I've worked on. But then this is only my second High Grade kit. I do plan on cranking some more out right away though. More builds to come.
