It is an extension of one stage sampling or cluster sampling. In cluster sampling, all the individuals or units of the randomly selected clusters are considered for the sample. But, sometimes it takes much time and cost to collect information from each of the units of the selected clusters if the size of the clusters are very large. For this, in two stage sampling, instead of considering all the units of the selected clusters some are chosen using simple random sampling from the selected clusters. Hence, there are two stages in Two stage sampling: 1) First Stage Unit: Clusters are selected randomly from the population using simple random sampling 2) Second Stage Unit: Some of the units are selected from the randomly chosen clusters using simple random sampling Please watch the video till the end to get the full concept.
