Stress could be a contributing factor to Alzheimer’s and dementia | Prof. Patrick Drew

While the exact causes of neurodegenerative brain diseases like Alzheimer's and dementia are still largely unknown, a key characteristic appears to be reduced blood flow to the brain. In research published Nov. 11, 2025 in the journal eLife (https://elifesciences.org/articles/10..., Patrick Drew, professor of engineering science and mechanics at Penn State, and a team of researchers show that a rare stress-sensitive neuron in the brain can cause reduced blood flow AND neural activity in mice.
