LRSU coverage of our favorite monthly shooting competition which may suprised some viewers because it's .22 Long Rifle Only! We're talking about the 22 LR Marksmen Challenge held by Rodney Downs on the 3rd Saturday of each month. Today's video involved two targets of his own design (He owns Vapor Trail Targets) both of which we refer to as a KYL (know your limits) Target. When used as a "True KYL" the shooter would have one shot at each target starting with the largest and moving to the smallest. The shooter must decide when to stop and bank his/her point because if the the first and only time they miss; all points for the entire stage are lost. Thus why it is called a Know Your Limits target, you have to know when you have reached your max capability and stop. In this video the larger KYL target is set at 75 yards from a sitting position with nothing touching the rifle but the shooters body and a sling. The shooter must engage with 8 shots in a LYL or Learn Your Limits format. This format is much more forgiving because when and if you miss you don't lose all your points but you just can't continue to shoot for more points. You're done with the stage once you miss. For the sake of time Rodney combined two stages of this month's match back to back. Each shooter immediately shoots the small "True" KYL rack at 35 yards from a prone position after they complete the LYL. This combo was a tough one for many of even our top ranked best shooters and other shot it flawlessly. This dynamic is what makes this our favorite match every month. The nature of the .22 Long Rifle really levels the playing field and makes for a challenging match. Notable rifles you'll see in this match and today's video: CZ 455 (Tacticool & Precision Trainer (camo)) Kidd Supergrade Anshutz (Various Models) Savage Arms Heavily modified Ruger 10/22 Optics: (* indicates most popular optics) *Sightron S3 or SV both in 10-50 x 60 mm *Nighforce SHV *SWFA 3-15 x 42 Nightforce Target Vortext HST & PST and more.
