Hoist rescue of hiker with major head injuries. 

On Sunday, October 27, 2024 the aircrew from Rescue 9 was dispatched to an area of Mount San Jacinto, near Palm Springs,. A hiker had called 911 to report that his friend had fallen approximately 25 feet and sustained major injuries. He was able to give his exact location thanks to a personal locator device, such as a Garmin, or InReach. The injured hiker was located in a rescue specialist, began treating him and prepared him for hoist. He was hoisted off the mountain and flown down to an ambulance where he was transported to the hospital and treated for injuries.  Like with other rescues, no one is charged for the services in Riverside County. If you were hiking and find yourself even in a questionable spot, or lost, do not hesitate to call 911. You will not be charged, we will come find you.
