Hey guys, this is my budget-friendly formula for videography basics for beginners. If you want to film a video, then my hope is that these tips will empower you with what you need to know to get started using what you have. I always find it helpful to get a variety of shots to help me have options when it comes to the edit. Not only do I look for a wide, a medium, and a close-up option, but I search for angles too. I find that it helps to take the time to film the same thing, in three different ways. It's a lot of work, but I find it to be rewarding. Next, I focus on movement. If I'm teaching a tutorial, movement isn't always top of mind, but in a vlog, or a piece of content for a client, movement helps with pacing and audience retention. My favorite movement is a gentle pan, but running up to a camera, walking with your camera in selfie mode, or really any movement is always helpful to stamp your signature style on your video. The next videography tip is pacing. These days, attention spans seem to be short, so it helps to have a fast-paced video. That said, I admire videos that are not afraid of slowing moments down. I think there is space for both a fast pace and slow pace video you just need to be aware of the feel you are hoping to relay in your video and then film accordingly so that you can achieve the pace. The final beginner videography tip is to be selective with your music. There are no rules, but my encouragement is to select music that is of your taste. There are often trends on the internet with regard to what sound is used, but these are trends. Music is a space where you get to introduce a different feel as well.
