Marjolin ulcer, is a type of cancer arising from regions of long standing burn wound and long standing scars. Histologically mostly, they are Squamous cell carcinoma. Morphological, they are of two types ulceroinfiltrative and polyploidal. Ulceroinfiltrative variety is more common and carries a poor prognosis. Usually between the inciting period and development of Marjolins ulcer there is a period of latency. It is in this period of latency, the mutations actually add up and unltimately leads to the formation of Marjolins ulcer. Histopathological diagnosis is usually with biopsy. MRI is the investigative modality of choice for defining local infiltration by tumour. Lymph nodes need to be assessed too. Sometimes, metastatic work up becomes necessary.
