This is Part 2 of 3 Video Lectures on HEMATOLOGY by Professor Fink. In this Video Lecture, Professor Fink continues with a description of Erythrocytes (RBCs). Reference is made to Normal RBC Counts, erythropoiesis, erythropoietin (Epogen), Life Span, the Reticulo-endothelial System, bilirubin, Normal Hemoglobin Content, and Types of Anemia. Professor Fink then describes Blood Platelets (Thrombocytes), and then analyzes the Control of Bleeding (Hemostasis). Both the Intrinsic Pathway (Platelet Factor) and the Extrinsic Pathway (Tissue Factor) in initiating Coagulation are described. Reference is made to prothombinase, fibrinogen, TPA, and fibrinolysis by plasmin. The increased risk of blood clots ("thrombosis") with atherosclerosis is explained. Professor Fink then begins a description of Leukocytes (WBCs). Reference is made to a Normal WBC Count, leukopenia, leukocytosis, Granular Leukocytes (Polymorphonuclearcytes), and the function of Neutrophils, Eosinophils, & Basophils.
