Från Halland & Skåne county, Sweden Båstad, Hallandåsen, Boarp & Mellbystrand Video from 2016 Copyright free Music: The Mediterrian Jazz piano Tristezza Bossa Nova Hallandsås is located in the border country between Skåne and Halland. It's not really a ridge in the traditional sense but a horst. Horsten is 40 kilometers long and 5-10 kilometers wide. The highest point is Högalteknall (a military protection area) with its 226 meters above sea level. For many centuries, Hallandsås has been a challenge for travelers. Often the travel companies were waiting for each other to jointly undertake the strait-rich and very dangerous journey across the ridge, which was an attractive haven for straw robbers and foresters. Today, Hallandås is much more inviting. Nature is beautifully diverse with heaths, beech forests, rocks, fields, marshes and meadows. There are also many cultural monuments to visit since the ridge has been inhabited ever since ancient times. In the summer there are tours with mountain bikes or on horseback. Björsåkra-Bölinge Nature Reserve is crossed by several paths with nice viewpoints for those who want to walk. For extra excitement you can try the 935 meter long summer toboggan run at Kungsbygget or Vallåsens biking park with trails of varying difficulty. In the winter when the cold comes, Vallåsen Ski Resort opens up for downhill skiing and cross country skiing. On and around the ridge are several farm shops, restaurants, cafes and galleries. There are also various opportunities for overnight accommodation for visitors. Båstad is a locality and the seat of Båstad Municipality, Skåne County, Sweden. It is however one of Sweden's most typical summer resorts. The population is presumably more than twice as large between April and September, and even larger during July. Its municipality follows a similar pattern: some 15,000 permanent residents, but more than 30,000 during July. Some villages within the municipality are almost empty during the winter, but have more than a 2,000 "summer guests" during July. Torekov is a good example of this. Within Sweden, Båstad is well known for tennis. The largest centre court in Sweden is located in the town's centre, and can take more than 5,000 attendants. Several top national players, such as Björn Borg, Mats Wilander and Stefan Edberg, have played tennis in Båstad.
