PART THREE - OUR LEADERSHIP POTENTIAL AS PRIESTS OF GOD In Part Three Apostle Jennifer Abigail Lawson-Wallace passionately discusses our status, responsibility and influence as priests of God. One of the core duties of the Old Testament priest was to teach and lead people to walk in the laws and ways, plans and purposes of God, and in righteousness. (Malachi 2:6-7; Ezra 7:10; Jeremiah 23:18, 22) When the priests failed in their responsibility to teach the people to walk in the ways of God, the people went astray, followed other gods and did what was wrong in the sight of God. Malachi 2:5-9 NLT "The purpose of my covenant with the Levites was to bring life and peace, and that is what I gave them. This required reverence from them, and they greatly revered me and stood in awe of my name. [6] They passed on to the people the truth of the instructions they received from me. They did not lie or cheat; they walked with me, living good and righteous lives, and they turned many from lives of sin. [7] "The words of a priest's lips should preserve knowledge of God, and people should go to him for instruction, for the priest is the messenger of the LORD of Heaven's Armies. [8] But you priests have left God's paths. Your instructions have caused many to stumble into sin. You have corrupted the covenant I made with the Levites," says the LORD of Heaven's Armies. [9] "So I have made you despised and humiliated in the eyes of all the people. For you have not obeyed me but have shown favoritism in the way you carry out my instructions." Like the Old Testament priests, we are to teach and lead the world in God’s ways, plan and purposes. As priests, we must preach the gospel, and teach the word of God and sound doctrine, in order to disciple and build and edify the Church. When we have discipled the believers, we shall disciple the nation. (Deuteronomy 33:10) We are to uphold righteousness as a standard of life and expect the same from others, saved or unsaved, wherever we are. We are to be an example to all around us, by living according to the word of God and showing others to do the same. This applies to all believers, but especially, those in leadership. We are to lead, guide and instruct our families, communities, societies in the ways of God. We are to instruct government and people in authority, saved or unsaved, to uphold righteousness, and to lead in the fear of God. The mandate of the Great Commission, defines the leadership role of the Church. However, it is in our priestly role and function that the Church will fulfil her mandate and mission to disciple the Church and the nations.
