Honey Bee & Vandi representing the American Miniature Horse at the RCAHA Horses Head to Hoof Fair in 2013 at Green Acres Ranch in Temecula, CA. “Honey Bee and I had a great time performing at the Horses Head to Hoof all breeds horse fair today! The crowd was a blast to perform for and Miss Bee felt like royalty afterwards socializing with the kids. We couldn't have done it without the support from some pretty amazing friends! a BIG thank you to Kassie Rivera and Spike Moore!!! You two are the best! Kassie is my unsung hero today!” - Vandi ------- Honey Bee was born at El Camino Ranch in 2002. She is an American Miniature Horse who shared a stable with two other mini companions (her mother Marrie Ribbons Heartbreaker and friend Precious Moments) until she started her career as a trick pony at the age of 3 with Vandi Reeves. Honey Bee and Vandi were a great team who performed at countless birthday parties, senior living facilities, schools, and equine expo’s. AS OF 2019: Honey Bee at the age of 17 is still with Vandi and is retired to a huge pasture with a private mini barn. She is very much loved and is instrumental in helping to teach Vandi’s daughter a thing or two about good horsemanship. HOW IT ALL STARTED: In December of 2004, renown horseman Dick Wallen and his trick pony Patches held a performance at the annual El Camino Christmas party (It’s California and the weather permits this sort of thing.) Dick was visiting his son Rob Wallen in California for the holidays and was planning to head home shortly after Christmas to Sioux City, Iowa. Bill Locklin (being the generous and wise man that he is) made arrangements with Dick to stay and work with his horse-crazy granddaughter who due to a series of upcoming hip surgeries, would not be riding for a few years. (This saved her life BTW) Dick agreed to extend his vacation for a few more weeks to work with Vandi and her mini horse. This was quite a big deal as very few persons outside of the Wallen family are lucky enough to be taught the trade secrets of trick training that have been passed down in the Wallen family for generations. After meeting the three miniature horses El Camino had to offer Dick quickly chose Honey Bee as the perfect candidate due to her feisty attitude. Over the next 10 Weeks, Vandi would drive to Rob’s place in Temecula 3x per week to work with Dick and Patches, and eventually Honey Bee. Dick and Vandi grew quite close as he opened her eyes to a side of horsemanship otherwise unexplored by most people. Not only did Dick change Vandi’s life in regards to horse training but, before he returned home he generously gifted Vandi with another close friend, a Dalmatian puppy from Dicks last litter that Vandi later named Gangster. So thank you to the two men, Bill Locklin and Dick Wallen may they rest-in-peace, who helped form the bonds between a young lady, a feisty pony, and the best dog a girl could ask for.
