Is the benefits system is unfair? That's what Keir Starmer reportedly told Labour MPs last night amid threats of a revolt over more than 6 billion pounds in planned welfare cuts. He apparently said the current system is 'indefensible' and 'unsustainable' and gives 'the worst of both worlds', with people discouraged from working while costs spiral. 2.8 million people are neither working or looking for a job as a result of long term sickness. Last year, the government spent 65 billion pounds on sickness benefits - and it's people claiming help for disabilities that are set to face the toughest cuts, with plans to freeze the rate of Personal Independence Payments and make it harder to claim.
