JM & bp Lead the Charge in UK’s SAF Revolution

Willis Sustainable Fuels (WSF) has selected Johnson Matthey (JM) and bp’s award-winning Fischer Tropsch (FT) CANS technology for its sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) project in Teesside, set to begin operations in 2028. The facility will use biomethane to produce syngas, which will be processed into synthetic crude oil for SAF production. Once operational, the plant aims to produce 14,000 tonnes of SAF blendstock annually. Teesside, a growing SAF hub, aligns with the region’s net-zero ambitions, including Teesside International Airport’s goal for net-zero flights by 2035. The project is backed by the UK Department for Transport’s Advanced Fuels Fund.
