This video explains the theory of continental drift. This video details the evidence put forth by Alfred Wegener which was contemporarily rejected by his peers. In addition to showing the fossil evidence of Mesosaurus, Cynognathus, Lystrosaurus, and Glossopteris, the video describes the glacial evidence of moraines which seemingly connect the separate continents into one super-continent known as Pangaea. The video explains how seismic activity led to taking a closer look at the idea of plate tectonics. The earthquake data over time has been mapped and a picture appeared as to the structure of the earth's lithosphere. As we look at this evidence, each type of boundary, divergent, convergent, and transform are discussed. Rock formations and mountains are also tied to the geologic theory. We look at both rock outcroppings and mountain ranges such the Appalachian Mountains, Eastern Greenland Mountains, and the Scottish Highlands as formerly being connected. We take a closer look at the work of Marie Tharp and Bruce Heezen mapping the ocean floor, and discovering the mid-ocean ridge. We also discuss Harry Hess and his contribution to the eventual acceptance of Wegener's Continental Drift Theory.
