🌊 Diving report – Inland Sea, Gozo The dive at the Inland Sea in Dwejra (Gozo) began in the protected, natural lagoon, which allows for a quiet and easily accessible entry. The dive led through the approximately 80 meter long rock tunnel that connects the Inland Sea with the open Mediterranean. While crossing the tunnel, impressive plays of light and shadow were created, making this section a special experience. As the distance from the lagoon increased, the view opened up of the open sea and the steep rock faces. Outside the tunnel, the underwater landscape offered a varied topography with steep walls, overhangs and crevices. A diverse range of marine fauna was evident in these habitats. Among other things, a Mediterranean moray eel (Muraena helena) could be observed between the rocks, resting quietly in a rock crevice during the day. Their elongated body and slightly open mouth are typical features of this species and enabled impressive but unobtrusive observation from a safe distance. The Inland Sea is considered one of Gozo's most famous diving spots and is suitable for both less experienced and advanced divers. The combination of easy accessibility, spectacular geology and abundant marine life makes this dive site special. Its exceptional quality was also highlighted by French marine explorer Jacques Cousteau, who ranked diving in this area among his top ten dives in the world.
